The centre
Sober Diving Center opened in 2019 on the main road of Jungut Batu, on the north-west coast of Nusa Lembongan. Since then we have taken more than 3,000 guests diving and certified more than 500 new divers. The beach is a minute's walk away and the Jungut Batu boat landing is about five minutes by scooter.
Everything is in one place: the front desk, the classrooms, the equipment room and our training pool. You check in, try on your gear, study and practise without leaving the building. We are a PADI 5 Star Dive Center, which is PADI's rating for centres that meet its standards for training, equipment and customer service.
The pool
Our pool is 25 by 15 metres and 2.4 metres deep. That depth matters: it is enough to practise buoyancy properly, hover off the bottom and run through every skill in the Open Water course before your first ocean dive.
We use it for Discover Scuba sessions, refreshers for divers who have been out of the water a while, freediving training, and underwater hockey every Wednesday evening.
Boats and equipment
We run two 15-seat speedboats with Yamaha F150 engines. Each carries emergency oxygen, a first aid kit, a marine radio, a fire extinguisher and life jackets. Most sites around the three islands are a short ride from Jungut Batu, so you spend your day underwater, not on the boat.
Our regulators and BCDs are Scubapro, and our equipment manager and boat crew are certified to service regulators, BCDs, tanks and the Bauer compressor on site.
How we dive
Groups are small. On fun dives a guide takes a maximum of four divers, and on courses an instructor usually teaches one to three students. The guide chooses each site on the day from the tide, the current and the experience of the group, and briefs you on the plan before every dive.
Currents around Nusa Penida are what bring the manta rays and mola mola, and they are also why we take planning seriously. Read how we manage currents and conditions before your trip.
Six languages
Our team teaches in English, Bahasa Indonesia, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish and French. Tell us your preferred language when you book and we will match you with the right instructor. Chinese-speaking divers can also read the key pages in Simplified Chinese.
Looking after the reef
We teach PADI AWARE and Dive Against Debris, and run our own manta ray and mola mola conservation course. On every dive we ask for the same things: no touching, no chasing, and keep your distance from the mantas and molas so they keep coming back.
