Scuba Refresher in Nusa Lembongan

If it has been a while since your last dive, a refresher in our pool brings the basics back before you get on a boat. It is a relaxed session with an instructor, not a test, and it sets you up to dive with confidence again.

Who needs a refresher

Certifications do not expire, but skills fade if you have not used them in a while. A refresher is for certified divers who want to shake off the rust before jumping back into open water, whether that is mask flooding, buoyancy, or just the general feel of the gear after a year or more on dry land.

It is equally common for divers who dived plenty a few years ago but feel out of practice, and for newly certified divers whose Open Water course finished some time before their next trip. Neither situation is unusual, and there is no judgement attached to booking one.

What we cover in the pool

Your instructor runs through the core skills again in our 25 x 15 m, 2.4 m pool: clearing your mask, recovering a regulator that has come loose, controlling your buoyancy, and reviewing hand signals with a buddy. You go at your own pace, and the instructor stays close the whole time.

Most people find the equipment itself comes back to them quickly, and it is the fine control, holding a steady depth, staying level in the water, that takes a little longer to settle back in. That is exactly what the pool session is for.

If it turns out a particular skill needs more than one attempt, there is no clock running. The session simply continues until you and your instructor are both comfortable, rather than being cut short at a fixed time.

Getting back in the ocean

Once you and your instructor are both happy with how the pool session went, you can move straight into fun diving the same day or the next, at the depth and site suited to your certification level. There is no separate sign-off or paperwork involved, it is simply a conversation between you and your instructor.

Your first dive back tends to be an easier, more sheltered site rather than the most current-affected spot on the schedule, which gives you a chance to settle back in before tackling anything more demanding.

If you are also considering a new course

Some divers use a refresher as a stepping stone into Advanced Open Water or a specialty course rather than straight back into fun diving, particularly if a few years have passed since their last certification. It is worth mentioning to your instructor if that is on your mind, since it can shape how the session is run.

Booking your refresher

See our prices page for the full price list, or book online directly. Pairing a refresher with a fun dive day is the most common way people use it, so you spend one morning getting comfortable again and the rest of the trip actually diving.

Questions

How do I know if I need a scuba refresher?

If it has been a year or more since your last dive, or you simply feel rusty on basic skills like mask clearing or buoyancy, a refresher is worth doing before you get back on a boat.

Will I lose my certification if I have not dived in a while?

No, PADI and other agency certifications do not expire. A refresher exists because skills can fade with time, not because your card stops working.

Can I go straight to fun diving after the refresher?

Yes, most divers do exactly that, moving from the pool session into fun diving the same day or the next once the instructor is happy with your skills.

Does the refresher count as a PADI course?

No, it is a skills practice session rather than a certification programme, so nothing new is added to your diving record.

What if I am not comfortable with a skill during the refresher?

There is no pass or fail. Your instructor repeats anything you are unsure of until you feel ready, and the session runs at your pace, not a fixed script.
