About Blue Corner
Blue Corner sits off the north-western tip of Nusa Lembongan, exactly where the currents running through the Nusa islands hit the reef hardest. A shallow reef top gives way to a steep coral slope and then a wall that keeps dropping well past recreational depths, and that combination of structure and current is what pulls in the big animals the site is known for. The boat ride out follows Lembongan's own coastline past the mangroves before reaching the point itself.
It is widely rated one of the more demanding drift dives in the area, and Sober Diving only runs it for divers with genuine drift experience. Water temperature drops noticeably along the wall, typically 18 to 26°C, colder than the sheltered bays back on Lembongan.
The dive
The plan is straightforward: descend onto the reef edge, let the current carry the group along the wall, and stay close to your guide the whole way. Depth control matters more here than at most sites, since the wall keeps going and it is easy to drift deeper than intended if you are not watching your computer.
Downflows can occur along the wall, so a surface marker buoy and solid buoyancy control are part of the briefing every time. This is not a dive to do on your first few trips after certification, and Sober Diving will always talk through your recent dive history before confirming a spot on this trip.
Because the plateau sits around 20 metres before the wall drops away properly, the dive can be shaped to stop divers on the shallower shelf if conditions on the day call for a more conservative profile, rather than pushing everyone to the deeper ledges regardless of how the current is running.
What you will see
Blue Corner has a reputation for pelagic encounters: spotted eagle rays, grey and whitetip reef sharks, giant trevally and barracuda moving through the current, plus the schools of smaller reef fish that current-swept sites attract. Between July and October, the same cold upwelling that brings mola mola to Crystal Bay can carry them here too.
Visibility is usually strong, often 15 to 30 metres, which helps when animals are moving quickly through open water rather than sitting still to be watched. If a mola mola is on your list, read our mola mola guide for what to expect and how to behave around one.
Best time and who it suits
Blue Corner is diveable year round, with July to October adding a chance at mola mola on top of the resident pelagic life. It suits confident, experienced divers only. Sober Diving looks for an Advanced Open Water certification and recent drift diving experience before booking anyone onto this site, and our drift diving specialty is worth doing first if you have not drift dived much.
Because of the current, Blue Corner is one of the sites we are most likely to swap for a gentler option if conditions are running stronger than usual on the day. If that happens, Mangrove or Toyapakeh make a sensible, calmer substitute on the same stretch of coast.
Blue Corner: questions
Is Blue Corner suitable for newly certified divers?
No. Blue Corner is a strong-current wall dive that Sober Diving reserves for divers with an Advanced Open Water certification and real drift diving experience.
What makes Blue Corner different from other Lembongan sites?
It sits directly in the path of the current flowing through the Nusa islands, which is what draws in eagle rays, sharks and large schools of fish, and also what makes the drift so demanding.
Can I see mola mola at Blue Corner?
Yes, between roughly July and October, when the same cold upwelling that feeds Crystal Bay reaches Blue Corner. Sightings do happen here, though less reliably than at Crystal Bay itself.
How far is Blue Corner from Sober Diving?
It is one of the closer sites Sober Diving runs, off the north-west tip of Nusa Lembongan itself, a short boat ride from Jungut Batu.
