About Malibu Point

Malibu Point sits on Nusa Penida's wild east coast, well away from the more heavily dived south and north coasts, which is part of why it stays quiet even in high season. The dive starts in a small, usually sheltered creek in front of the shore before opening onto exposed walls on either side.

It carries the same fuel surcharge as Manta Point and Batu Abah, because the boat ride out to the east coast is longer than to Sober Diving's regular sites.

The dive and conditions

Inside the creek, entry sits around 8 to 10 metres and conditions are usually calm enough to get settled before deciding how far to push the dive. From there, a southern wall offers a steeper, more exposed profile with mild to strong current, and a northern wall goes further still, into deeper, more current-affected water suited only to experienced divers.

Even the sheltered creek is not guaranteed calm, and currents inside it can still run stronger than expected, so every dive here is briefed and led by a guide who knows the site. See our safety and conditions guide for how Sober Diving plans any trip around current and weather.

What you will see and who it suits

The creek is rich in coral and sheltered marine life: turtles are commonly found resting under ledges and in coral crevices, and macro life such as frogfish and both colour morphs of ribbon eel turn up on the same patch of reef. Moving out onto the walls brings a chance of larger reef fish and current-driven visitors.

Because conditions vary so much between the creek and the two walls, Malibu Point suits experienced, current-comfortable divers who can adapt through a single dive, rather than anyone looking for a predictable profile.

Malibu Point: questions

Why is Malibu Point more expensive than other fun dives?

It carries a fuel surcharge, the same as Manta Point and Batu Abah, because it sits on Nusa Penida's remote east coast, further from Jungut Batu than Sober Diving's regular sites.

Is Malibu Point good for beginners?

No. Conditions vary sharply between the sheltered creek and the exposed walls, so this site suits experienced divers who are comfortable adapting to changing current.

What will I see at Malibu Point?

Turtles resting under ledges, frogfish and ribbon eels in the creek, with a chance of larger reef fish out on the walls.

How often does Sober Diving run trips to Malibu Point?

Less often than the island's main sites, since it is further away and depends on calm conditions. Ask us directly about upcoming availability.
